Academic Load & Grading

Semester System:

In the 2006-07 academic year Shekinah Bible College changed from a quarter credit hour to a semester credit hour system. Two one-semester terms equal one academic year. Each semester is 15 weeks in length with a compressed winter and summer schedule. Every credit hour consists of 50 minutes of classroom instruction per week and 2 hours of additionally assigned work. Students seeking to take more than 15 credit hours in any term must obtain approval from the office of the Academic Dean.

Grading:

Shekinah Bible College uses the following grading system: Quality points are awarded as noted in the table below for each credit hour. The GPA (Grade Point Average) is computed by dividing the total number of quality points by the total number of credits attempted (in the case of W/F or F) and/or awarded.

Withdraw/Fail:

If a student withdraws from a course after the posted date (see Academic Calendar), a W/F grade will be posted in their permanent record and will be averaged into their GPA as 0.00 points. Students withdrawing after the 'last day to withdraw' for extenuating reasons may petition the Office of the Academic Dean to have their grade changed to W (withdraw) with no academic penalty.

Withdraw:

If a student withdraws before the end of mid-term, there will be no academic penalty.

Incomplete:

Incomplete status indicates satisfactory but incomplete work. An incomplete is assigned only when there are extenuating circumstances. The incomplete work must be submitted within one quarter of the scheduled final exam. Work missing beyond the grace period will be averaged into the total class grade as a zero.

Audit:

All courses may be audited with the permission of the Office of the Dean and the approval of the instructor. Audited courses are subject to an audit fee (see Financial Information). Text Books are required for all audited classes and classroom participation is expected. However, tests, projects, papers, and other course requirements are not required when a class is audited. No grade will be awarded for an audited course. Students may not apply for credit at a later time and must retake the course if credit is desired.

Dean’s List:

Full time students achieving a 3.5 grade point average in a quarter, having completed all courses will be recognized for their achievement by being placed on the Dean's List.

Homework:

Students are expected to complete two hours of homework for every hour of classroom instruction.

Academic Probation:

All students are expected to maintain a minimum 2.00 grade point average (GPA). A GPA lower than 2.00 will result in academic probation. While on probation, the student will have two quarters to raise his or her GPA to a satisfactory level. Failure to do so may result in disciplinary action or dismissal from the college.
